Bridgeland Art Benches
- Bridgeland BIA
- Summer 2025
This project started with a simple idea: take something practical—a street bench—and turn it into a piece of art that encourages people to pause and enjoy a public space.
In August 2025, the Bridgeland BIA invited three local artists—Tyler Lemermeyer, Sarah Slaughter, and Julianne Buchholz—to paint three vibrant benches along 1st Ave NE. Each artist brought their own perspective on what Bridgeland means to them, so each bench is unique.
Bridgeland BIA used social media and signage to share the project plan with the community and to invite them to see the process. While the artists worked, community members wandered by, asked questions, watched the process, and stayed longer than they planned to.
Now those benches are part of the street. They’re a resting or meeting place, and they have helped make the area feel more active and more welcoming. This community project shows how small ideas can have big impact on public spaces.
