FAQs

We've never applied to a grant before. We need help getting started!

We’re happy you’re here! If you haven’t yet, start by reviewing the Good Places Project Grant Guidelines. After that, you can attend a Placemaking Workshop, which run during each application period, where we can help you develop your project and application.

You can also reach out to us at goodplaces@calgarycommunities.com or use this booking link to chat about your ideas. We’re here to support you in designing and delivering a project in your community.

No you cannot. Projects must take place within Calgary’s city limits.

Each application must be associated with a community association, non-profit, charity or BIA.

However, if you are an individual with a great idea, but lack a group/organization to make it happen, please reach out! We are more than happy to find you some amazing connections within our network.

Only one active application/project per group is allowed.

Unfortunately we are unable to fund costs that occur before the grant is provided.

The CRA defines an honorarium as “-a voluntary payment made to a person for services for which fees are not legally or traditionally required. An honorarium is typically used to help cover costs for volunteers or guest speakers.”

Note that honorariums are a way to show gratitude in special circumstances when there is no expectation of payment. While volunteers can be given honoraria, this should be reasonable with respect to the value they have brought to the program. It can be helpful to speak to other organizations with similar experience to determine how much you might give as an honorarium.

Please be aware that any groups holding a gaming license with AGLC must not pay their board members in any circumstances.

We define recurring programming as occurring at least 3 times at the same location.

Recurring programs are an effective placemaking tool because regular events and activities in a public place build routine, connection, and anticipation, which turns those public spaces into beloved community gathering places that bring neighbours out to play, explore, and connect.
