Killarney Pop-Up Plaza

Christian Life Assembly (@cla.calgary) received an ActivateYYC grant to transform their parking lot into a vibrant community park—and the results are inspiring. The space featured turf, patio furniture, solar string lights, a beautiful playground set, a full-length basketball court, and even barbecues.

With the support of more than 25 volunteers, the project quickly came to life. Since its completion, the space has become a hub for connection, with children playing together and neighbours building new relationships. When the vision was shared with the church congregation, many people jumped in to help, generously donating materials and items to support the initiative. Truly, many hands make light work.

Calgary has an abundance of underused parking and green spaces, and this project is a powerful example of what’s possible when creativity, collaboration, and community come together. It’s incredibly exciting to see what CLA was able to achieve!
